Alex + Steve // A Rainy Day UConn Wedding

Sunsets, Swing Bands and a UConn Wedding

This UConn wedding day had it all. Rain, a crazy sunset, ice cream stops on the way to the reception, art galleries, a swing band, a beautiful ceremony and two of the best people around.

You feel better when you’re around Alex and Steve. They are two of the most positive people I’ve met and after photographing them last year at UConn, Frankie and I had this date circled.

The wedding day began at St. Mark’s Church on the UConn campus. Alex and Steve’s relationship is deeply tied to St. Mark’s and you could see how at home and comfortable they felt within the chapel. It was an honor to witness them exchange vows in a place so near and dear to them. For me, it certainly doesn’t hurt when the chapel is a photographer’s dream.

The sunset that capped the evening was just gravy on an unforgettable wedding day. I’m so excited to share this preview.

A Beacon Hill Engagement

I feel like this is a stylistic departure for me. Maybe it’s not – I’m too close to my work to really know when I’m doing something different, but it felt different when I shot it. One thing I’m sure of – I talk way too much during my engagements. So for this session, I just shut up and documented the two people in front of me. Some pointed direction here and there, but basically it was all them. And that was awesome. Every time I shoot a Beacon Hill engagement I try to do something different to keep it fresh. So I tried shutting up and it worked out better than I couldn’t hoped.

Hillary + Ken, I’ll see you two in September. I’ll be crossing my fingers for a warmer afternoon, but I know you two can rock a chilly day like none other.

Technical crap, finally rocking the Nikon 58 1.4. This thing is a game changer for me – the perfect focal length for the look I’m going for and the quality I need. I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without it.

Brittany + Greg // Lighthouse Inn Wedding

A Foggy Night at the Lighthouse Inn

A Lighthouse Inn Wedding on Cape Cod. I love Cape Cod – we don’t shoot there nearly enough (wink wink nudge nudge future couples). I appreciate that most Cape weddings turn into little destination weddings for the people traveling down, so for the most part – the celebration never ends with everyone being on site with the couple. Brittany and Greg were married on a beautiful June day earlier this summer which played out in typical cape fashion. The morning started off sunny and warm but quickly gave way to a moody, foggy, evening soon after the ceremony.

The reception incorporated the lighthouse motif of the inn throughout the decor and table settings and I can’t say enough about the beautiful florals from J Smith Floral Design (including the largest bouquet we’ve ever photographed). I’m grateful to have been a part of this day and I’m so excited to share this recap!

Horn Pond Engagement // Lauren + Steve

Never underestimate the beauty you can find 10 minutes from your house. Earlier this summer I met up with Lauren and Steve at Horn Pond to shoot some engagement photos. The light was perfect, with the sun setting just behind the tree line. We made our way around the secluded paths at Horn Pond and wrapped just after sunset. Here are a few of my favorites from my session. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, shooting photos for people I’ve known since elementary school never gets old. Can’t wait to do it all again next May.

The Knot’s 50 States 50 Weddings

Hidden Pond has been really good to us. It’s the venue that helped us kick start our career with Kyle and Ann’s wedding in 2013, it gave us the opportunity to shoot our first same sex wedding and now it’s our first published work. Mind blown.

Earlier this summer, we received word from The Knot that Lauren + Kate’s Hidden Pond wedding had been selected as the Maine wedding for this year’s 50 States 50 Weddings feature. Aside from the excitement of seeing our work on The Knot, I can’t think of two people more deserving than Lauren + Kate. Here are a few of my favorite’s and links below to the awesome vendors who made the day possible. To anyone considering Hidden Pond – call me, immediately, I need more Maine wedding goodness in my life.

Hope + Nathan // Maudslay State Park Engagement

Spring wins. Especially spring at Maudslay.

A few of my favorites from a killer Maudslay State Park Engagement session with Hope and Nathan last month. These two absolutely destroyed it in front of the camera and I’m so excited to share this preview.

In the days leading up to this session it was really touch and go if it was even going to happen – the forecast was iffy (as spring in New England tends to be) and it was only in the last few hours that we decided to pull the trigger. I’m so glad we did – Maudslay was the best I’ve ever seen it, filled with bright spring colors, devoid of other people and the perfect engagement spot. After shooting in the park for a bit, we made our way downtown to finish the session as the sunset over Newburyport. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out a busy weekend in May.

Alden Castle Wedding // Debbie + Pat

Laugh. Cry. Laugh again. Then get married at Alden Castle.

Alden Castle is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Massachusetts – probably because it doesn’t feel anything like Massachusetts. I’m really excited to finally share this recap of Debbie + Pat’s wedding from earlier this spring.

After getting ready at the Courtyard Marriott in Brookline, Debbie + Pat headed over to Alden for their first look. These photos are why I love first looks. The anticipation, the reaction, the feels – its such a real moment and for someone trying to document the emotion of a wedding day, there’s nothing better. After the first look, and some windy portraits with the bridal party, we made our way downstairs where these two were married in front of friends and family.

The reception was loud, the dance party was nonstop and I don’t think I’ve laughed so much at a wedding in a long time. Debbie + Pat, congrats again on a wedding well done – you two deserve all the love in the world.

Lakeview Pavilion Wedding // Sherri + James

You Had Me at Home Alone Koozie and Lakeview Pavilion

The start of our season has been all over the place. After we got home from Costa Rica in March, we went right into our first wedding, climbed the John Hancock Tower to support Frankie’s work, traveled to New York to see Hamilton (humble brag), shot engagements, celebrated birthdays and finally got to Sherri + James’ Lakeview Pavilion wedding.

I’ve had this day marked for months, not just because Sherri + James are fantastic people, but this is one of those weddings so chocked full of familiar faces that you can’t help getting overly excited about it. We’ve had the privilege to shoot multiple weddings with this group of friends and family so we knew exactly what to expect heading in. And it delivered.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like friends. That kind of welcome is not lost on me. The whole reason we invest our time in doing this is to make connections with the people we work with (and create some beautiful photos). I’m grateful when people let us in and give us this little peek into their lives through their wedding days. In our time getting to know Sherri + James since their engagement last summer, you just know these two are meant to be together. Their personalities are in sync. Their sense of humor is so similar and seeing them together just feels right. So enjoy this look into their Lakeview Pavilion wedding day and know I’ll always cherish the fact that we were entrusted to document these moments.

Carly + Mark // Wedding at Lyman Estate

It’s hard to tell from these photos, but this was our coldest wedding of 2015. Hands down. It was freezing.

But the most important thing to remember on your wedding day, this is the day you’re given and there’s nothing you can do to change it. If it rains, it rains. If it’s sunny, it’s sunny. If it snows (like it did on this day in October), it snows. But at the end of the day, you’ll be married to the person you’ve chosen to be with for the rest of your life, and that’s pretty awesome. And Carly and Mark embraced it.

They got married outside at the beautiful Lyman Estate before their closest friends and family, in 40 degree weather. Everyone had to sit a little closer, huddle together a little tighter, but after the ceremony it didn’t matter if people were chilly – they were on their feet celebrating these two.

Debbie + Pat // Boston University Engagement

Currently sitting in a Starbucks, staring out at a torrential downpour. Perfect blogging weather.

This is Debbie + Pat, two fantastic people who are coincidentally getting married on Saturday in Brookline. Last fall, they traveled up to Boston to shoot engagement photos at Boston University. We laughed. We laughed a lot. These are just a few of my favorites.
